Jackson's Produce

The Jacksons are very active in the farmers’ market community, and in addition to finding them at Bardstown road, you can also find them at the Gray Street Market on Thursdays and the Rainbow Blossom Market on Sundays. ]They are probably most famous in the Louisville area for their tomatoes, which they have been growing for the whole season using greenhouses since 1975. In that time, better equipment and technology have made their job a lot easier. They now have two
100x30 greenhouses for tomatoes, which can grow
over a thousand plants. In addition to year-round tomatoes, they have also recently incorporated a lettuce system to provide leafy greens year round! Something also very important to many, is that they do not use fungicides or poison insecticides, because the greenhouses are climate controlled and pest management is integrated.

James says that he likes to grow fruit and
vegetables, and when customers thank him for what
he already likes to do it makes the risky business
worth while. A risky business indeed, because in the
past 30 years they have lost 6 greenhouses
3 to
snow, 1 to ice, and 2 to a fairly recent tornado. Despite the setbacks, they keep rebuilding and moving forward, enjoying what they do, and at the same time, providing all of us with some delicious produce.
