Heritage Harvest Farm

Heritage Harvest Farm

Dan Franz is the owner of Heritage Harvest Farm, 67.5 acres of organic production settled between endless acres of field corn. While good friends with his neighbors, his style and purpose for farming differs greatly from theirs. Dan is passionate about what he does though he is modest about all the hard work he puts in. His passion for farming not only includes the food he grows but the protection of the surrounding ecosystem as well. He has been careful to allow patches of trees and brush to grow up between field to provide natural wildlife habitat. He showed us a chair he has set up way out in the field just for watching birds and other wildlife and enjoying the quiet of nature.

Fields of zucchini, winter squash, green beans cucumbers potatoes, corn, peppers and tomatillos stretch out beneath the bright blue Indiana sky. Dan has been farming for 23 years, prior to that he was in the landscaping business. After attending an organic farming conference in 1995, he redirected his efforts to put concerns for soil health and natural ecosystems as a top priority.
